There is no single right answer, but these ranges are a safe starting point. Always prioritise technique over load.
Beginners
- Men: 12–16 kg
- Women: 4–12 kg
Strength-trained but new to kettlebells
- Men: 20–24 kg
- Women: 12–16 kg
A quick warning on 32 kg
32 kg is too heavy as a first kettlebell in almost every case — technique, control and grip matter more than raw strength. If you want one bell with a wide range, consider an adjustable 12–32 kg competition kettlebell.
By exercise
Two-arm swings tolerate the most weight; presses and snatches noticeably less. If you buy one bell, pick a weight you can swing with clean form for 20 reps but that still challenges you.
